Goals & Objectives

Our goal is to make a positive impact on our community by improving health in three major areas:

Promote Colon Cancer Screening

CDC’s Colorectal Cancer Control Program (CRCCP) provides funding to 25 states and 4 tribes across the United States for five years. The CRCCP’s goal is to increase colorectal (colon) cancer screening rates among men and women aged 50 years and older from about 64% to 80% in the funded states by 2018. An increase in screening rates will reduce illness and death from colorectal cancer.

Smoking Cessation

Tobacco use can lead to tobacco/nicotine dependence and serious health problems. Cessation can significantly reduce the risk of suffering from smoking-related diseases. Tobacco/nicotine dependence is a chronic condition that often requires repeated interventions, but effective treatments and helpful resources exist. Smokers can and do quit smoking. In fact, today there are more former smokers than current smokers.

Promoting Physical Activity and Sound Nutrition

Our vision – a world where regular physical activity, good nutrition, and healthy weight are part of everyone’s life.

Our mission – to lead strategic public health efforts to prevent and control obesity, chronic disease, and other health conditions through regular physical activity and good nutrition.

Our goals:

Increase health-related physical activity through population-based approaches.

Improve those aspects of dietary quality most related to the population burden of chronic disease and unhealthy child development.

Decrease prevalence of obesity through preventing excess weight gain and maintenance of healthy weight loss.
